On Dec 21 night, two important astronomical events Total Lunar Eclipse and Winter solstice coincided. Similar event occurred on Dec 21, 1638 which is 372 years back!
The winter solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'. This happens just for a moment. This is shortest day and longest night of a year as well. This time total lunar eclipse coincides with this.
The next time these two events will coincide on December 21, 2094!
